View All Critic Reviews Aug 24, Elementary comes to a decent, though not outstanding end, in it's seventh and final season.
The majority of episodes are entertaining. The show still manages to pursue interesting concepts, often related to the business world, and avoids the tendency that other mystery shows these days have by neither being too light or dark. However, since this is the seventh season, the episodes feel fatigued. The finale, though maybe not the greatest final episode, is a suitable ending for the show and I prefer it over last season's finale which would've been the end if the show hadn't been renewed.
Unfortunately, the major storyline of this season shares the fate of most of the season stories by being mediocre. Still, nothing compares to season 1 and maybe the first half of season 3.
The villain here has kind of an interesting concept, but he or she feels underwritten. If you're hoping that there will a final confrontation with Moriarty, be disappointed. I think it's safe to say at this point that Natalie Dormer is either too busy or unwilling to reprise the role. The characters' relationship really drives the finale. Jack W. Also, Holmes and Watson assist Bell when he tries to prevent a future crime of his own, as he races to locate a fellow NYPD officer planning a sniper shooting.
S7, Ep7. Holmes and Watson investigate the murder of a criminal who made his living by stealing from other criminals. Captain Gregson resumes leadership of the precinct, and suspects his interim replacement, Captain Dwyer, is responsible for one of his best detective's suspicious departure.
S7, Ep8. Cassie Lenue seeks the help of Holmes and Watson in solving a murder but they believe she has an ulterior motive. S7, Ep9. In the wake of a sculptor's murder in New York, Holmes and Watson must determine whether a long dormant serial killer has resurfaced; Watson suspects Holmes is keeping something from her.
S7, Ep Holmes and Watson's foe, Odin Reichenbach, asks them to test his new crime prevention system; tasked with investigating someone the program predicts will commit a crime, they worry Odin will take drastic action. Holmes and Watson reluctantly enlist the help of Holmes's father to publicize the crime prevention system of Odin Reichenbach.
Tech billionaire Odin Reichenbach inadvertently provides Holmes and Watson with a lead that could give them evidence that brings him to justice. In the series' finale, Holmes and Watson battle with tech billionaire Odin Reichenbach and receive word of their old enemy and Sherlock's former love, Jamie Moriarty.
